Actress Sana Askari Opens Up About Overcoming Postpartum Depression

Pakistani model and actress Sana Askari has bravely shared her personal battle with postpartum depression and the tumultuous journey she endured following the birth of her child. Known for her prominent work in the entertainment industry, Sana Askari, along with her husband, YouTuber Minhaj Ali Askari, welcomed their son in 2016. However, the path to motherhood proved to be a struggle for the actress.

A Hidden Pregnancy to Ward Off the Evil Eye

During an interview for a morning show, Sana disclosed the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy. She chose to keep her pregnancy a closely guarded secret, only confiding in her husband, mother, and mother-in-law during the initial five months. This decision was rooted in her past experiences, having tragically lost two children previously. Sana aimed to protect her pregnancy from the negative energies of the evil eye, a belief deeply ingrained in her culture.

The Unseen Battle of Sana Askari with Postpartum Depression

Following the birth of her first child, Sana encountered an array of difficulties. Pakistani hospitals offered inadequate resources, leaving new mothers without the proper guidance on breastfeeding and child-rearing. This dearth of support left Sana with numerous questions and concerns about her newfound role as a mother. Unbeknownst to her, she was already battling with postpartum depression, marked by inexplicable tears and emotional turmoil.

The situation took a more challenging turn when her son was just three months old. During a hospital visit for her son’s treatment, Sana learned that her mother was battling stage four breast cancer, adding an additional layer of distress to her life. Witnessing her mother’s health struggles while dealing with her own difficulties as a new mother, Sana’s emotions spiral out of control. She harbored anger and resentment towards her husband, leading her to contemplate divorce.

Sana candidly shared how her anger and resentment had reached such a peak that she even considered ending her marriage. She had inadvertently made her husband a target for her pent-up emotions, finding it increasingly difficult to manage her feelings. It wasn’t until she began venting her frustration on her own child that she realized she needed professional help. Recognizing the necessity of intervention, Sana turned to a psychologist; through therapy and unwavering support, she confronted her postpartum depression, setting herself on the path to recovery and a brighter, healthier future.
