Amna Malik: “Mothers Prefer Slim, Tall, Fair Daughters-in-Law”

Amna Malik, Pakistani actress and TV host, actively criticized societal pressures surrounding marriage, particularly unrealistic expectations for partners.
Speaking on a recent podcast, Malik addressed the challenges in finding suitable marriage proposals, highlighting the role of mothers in perpetuating these ideals. She noted that mothers often demand brides who are slim, tall, and fair-skinned, focusing on superficial traits. “These qualities cannot exist in one person,” she remarked, questioning if women would be rejected for gaining weight after marriage.
Malik further criticized the trend of granting young women excessive freedom before marriage, suggesting it might hinder their ability to adjust in their marital homes. She also observed that women are delaying marriage, while both genders increasingly seek meaningful conversations before committing.
Addressing another trend, Malik condemned mothers’ fixation on brides with foreign degrees and their intrusive questions about women’s past relationships while studying abroad. Her statements have ignited widespread debate on social media, with some applauding her critique of marriage expectations and others challenging her views on women’s freedom before marriage.
