Durefishan Saleem Dismisses Love Marriage, Citing Lack of Excitement

During a recent appearance on Nida Yasir’s morning show, television star Durefishan Saleem shared her perspective on love marriages versus arranged marriages. The Ishq Murshid actor firmly supports arranged marriages, stating that they offer more excitement and surprises for couples as they begin their journey together.
Saleem criticized love marriages, claiming that they lack the element of wooing, and argued that men pursuing love marriages often lose interest after the wedding, believing they have already achieved their goal.
Continuing in the same vein, Durefishan remarked that with both parties having got to know each other deeply during their courtship, there is usually very little left to uncover by the time they have reached their wedding. In a society that holds up love marriages as a frisson of excitement when juxtaposed with a more traditional set-up, Durefishan turned things around by pointing out that it was love marriages, in fact, that were anticlimactic.
“[If you are in a love marriage], you know each other so well that there is nothing left to discover about the other person!” she claimed. “There is just no excitement in there at all!”
When not commenting on the deplorable dullness of love marriages on national television, Durefishan enjoys a packed acting calendar. Daughter of producer and director Saleem ul Hassan, Durefishan moved from Lahore to Karachi to begin her acting career. After her debut in Dil Ruba with a supporting role, Durefishan went on to appear in the dramas Pardes and Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi, among others.
