Hamza Ali Abbasi Speaks Out on Officiating Friend’s Nikkah

Hamza Ali Abbasi recently addressed criticism for officiating a close friend’s nikah, clarifying that his friend personally asked him to perform the ceremony.

A video of the event went viral, showing Hamza conducting the nikah and asking the groom to declare the haq mehar. In a podcast, Hamza explained that every Muslim should know how to perform basic religious acts like nikah and janazah. He added that a scholar was present at the ceremony to guide him.

Discussing his spiritual journey, Hamza emphasized that his statements are based on the Quran, Hadith, and scholarly teachings, not personal opinions. He shared that he follows the Ghamdi school of thought and has made major lifestyle changes since 2017, committing to live within the bounds of Sharia.

Reactions to the video were mixed, with many social media users defending Hamza, noting that any Muslim can conduct a nikah, while others criticized the ceremony’s informality. The video re-emerged shortly after Hamza published his book My Discovery of God: Islam and Judgement Day, marking another milestone in his religious journey.
