Hassan Ahmed on Parenting and Religious Tolerance in Inter-Faith Families

Hassan Ahmed and Sunita Marhall , known for their inter-faith marriage, have been transparent about raising their children with values of tolerance and respect for all religions. They have nurtured their kids in an environment that acknowledges and appreciates diverse beliefs.

During a recent appearance on Masarrat Misbah’s show, Hassan Ahmed shared insights on parenting in an inter-faith household. He emphasized that many people adhere to a religion simply because they were born into it, without exploring its teachings or understanding its principles. Hassan expressed that blind adherence due to ancestral ties is not ideal; rather, individuals should educate themselves before making religious choices.

When asked about how he would react if his children expressed an interest in Christianity, Hassan Ahmed maintained a calm and reasoned approach. He stated that while he never anticipates such a situation, he would engage in a constructive dialogue with his children. Rather than reacting impulsively, he would encourage them to explain their reasons and interpretations. Hassan affirmed that his daughter, known for her logical thinking, considers such matters thoughtfully.

Reflecting on his personal growth, Hassan Ahmed acknowledged that prior to his marriage, he carried societal aggression and intolerance commonly seen among Muslims. However, marrying someone from a different faith was, in his view, a way for Allah to help him overcome these negative traits. He remains devoted to Islam but values the lessons in tolerance and understanding that his inter-faith marriage has brought him.
