The upcoming Urdu literary festival ‘Jashn-e-Rekhta’ in Dubai will feature Javed Akhtar and Mahira Khan as headliners. The festival is scheduled from January 27 to 29 at Zabeel Park. It will offer a vibrant mix of poetry, talks, ghazals, storytelling, and cultural exchanges.
First Edition of Urdu Literary Festival
Last year’s inaugural edition in London was initially planned for Dubai in February 2019 but was cancelled due to the pandemic. The festival boasts a stellar lineup, ensuring a captivating experience with diverse literary and cultural offerings.The official website invites attendees to prepare for a power-packed Jashn-e-Rekhta Dubai 2024, featuring a global lineup of artists and speakers.
The Combo of Celebrities and Human Rights Activists
Javed Akhtar is slated to engage in a thought-provoking conversation with Pakistani human rights activist Arfa Sayeda Zehra and actor Adeel Hashmi on the inaugural day of the festival, January 27. With the panel titled, ‘Urdu Tehzeeb Aur Rishton Ki Lazzat,’ this dynamic panel promises to delve into the intersection of literature, activism, and the beauty of language, offering attendees a unique opportunity to witness a multifaceted discussion.
The lineup of the Festival
Mahira Khan joins a star-studded lineup on January 28 at the festival. The Pakistani actor will be alongside Shabana Azmi and Bollywood director Shekhar Kapoor. They aim to explore storytelling and character building in a panel called ‘Kahaani Se Kirdaar Tak.’ This collaboration showcases a commitment to cultural unity.
Total Expected Visitors of the Event
The festival is expected to host around 15,000 visitors from India and Pakistan, underlining Urdu literature’s universal appeal and cultural significance. In addition to the literary and musical offerings, attendees will have the opportunity to explore an Urdu Bazaar featuring stalls showcasing various art, handicrafts, and books. The organisers hope to create an immersive experience that goes beyond literary discussions and engages all the senses.
