Parveen Shakir’s Poetic Essence Captivates the Youth

Today (Tuesday) marks the 29th death anniversary of the revered poet Parveen Shakir, fondly known as the “Poet of Fragrance.”
Parveen Shakir, born in Karachi on November 24, 1952, gained prominence in the literary world after successfully passing the civil service competitive examination.
In 1977, she debuted in literature with her acclaimed poetry collection, ‘Khushbu’ (Fragrance). Subsequent collections, including ‘Sad Barg’ (One Hundred Leaves), ‘Khood-Qalami (Self-Talk), and ‘Inkaar’ (Denial), solidified her status as a distinguished Urdu poet.
Her complete works were later published as ‘Mah-e-Tamam’ (The Full Moon), and her final collection, ‘Kaf-e-Aina’ (The Mirror’s Edge), was published posthumously.
Parveen Shakir, known for her unique style in Urdu poetry, received accolades and was honoured with the Pride of Performance award by the Government of Pakistan.
On the tragic morning of December 26, 1994, Parveen Shakir lost her life in a traffic accident in Islamabad.
