Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Reveals Nusrat’s Unique Nickname Given by the West

Pakistan and the world suffered a great loss when Qawwali maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan passed away at the peak of his career in 1997.
Recently, his nephew, renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, revealed that Westerners were so captivated by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s qawwali ‘Allah Hoo Allah Hoo’ that they started calling him ‘Mr. Allah Hoo.’
Speaking to the media in Canada, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan shared, “Toronto feels like my second home because Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s wife lived here, and I often stayed at her house. My memories are deeply tied to this city.”
He added, “My son, Shah Zaman, is performing on big stages at a young age. He has been learning by singing alongside Ustad Nusrat since he was six.”
Expressing his passion for qawwali, Rahat said, “Qawwali is my favorite genre. There is a freedom in qawwali that allows you to sing openly.”
He emphasized his connection to his roots, saying, “We bring the smell of our homeland with us wherever we go.” Rahat also mentioned, “Like the West, I too loved Ustad Nusrat’s ‘Allah Hoo Allah Hoo’ the most.”
Rahat is now performing in North America alongside his son, Shah Zaman Ali Khan.
