Rashid Mehmood’s Stand Against Rising Utility Costs

Rashid Mehmood, a renowned Pakistani actor famous for his compelling portrayals in PTV dramas, has recently sparked controversy due to his exorbitant electricity bill. In a candid interview with Lahore-based YouTuber Moeen Zubair, Rashid Mehmood expressed dismay over the heavy taxes levied on his electricity consumption, which resulted in a bill far higher than expected. Despite being able to afford the bill from his hard-earned income, Rashid Mehmood highlighted the burden of hidden charges, particularly impacting low-income individuals.

“I’ve turned off all lights and my AC,” Rashid Mehmood stated, emphasizing his decision to limit electricity use to essentials like heating during winters. His bill of Rs. 29,000 for consuming 700 units included an additional Rs. 16,000 in taxes, a sharp increase from his usual Rs. 20,000 expenditure for similar usage. The actor expressed solidarity with ordinary Pakistanis facing similar financial strains due to escalating utility costs.

“I earned my money honestly through hard work,” Rashid Mehmood affirmed, reflecting on his career with Radio Pakistan and PTV Lahore. His protest, he clarified, aimed to advocate for fairer utility pricing rather than seeking personal assistance from the government. Social media users have rallied behind Rashid Mehmood, praising his stance as representative of widespread concerns across Pakistan.
