Sadia Faisal Attributes Rise in Divorce Rates to Career-Oriented Women

Sadia Faisal believes ‘career-oriented women’ are behind surge in divorce rates, a controversial view she expressed during a recent appearance on the FHM podcast. The Pakistani actor talked about the dynamics of contemporary marriages in Pakistan, suggesting that the increasing independence and career focus of women contribute significantly to the rising divorce rates.
Sadia Faisal Believes ‘Career-Oriented Women’ are Behind Surge in Divorce Rates
During the podcast, Sadia Faisal emphasized that despite evolving societal norms, the core traditions of Pakistani culture remain important. She elaborated on the issue, stating, “I think women have become more intolerant. They are more career-oriented now.” According to Faisal, the growing self-sufficiency among women has led to a decrease in tolerance levels within marriages, resulting in a lack of compromise. This, she believes, is a primary reason for the uptick in divorce rates.
Sadia argued that financial independence often leads to an inflated sense of self, making it challenging for marriages to thrive. “You develop certain expectations when you’re independent and earning. You find a sense of security when you become self-sufficient, which is a good thing, but it can get to your head. When women earn more than men, their expectations increase. Thank God I have not changed like this,” she remarked.
The Changing Dynamics of Marriage in Pakistan
Faisal expressed concern over the shifting dynamics within marriages, stressing the importance of balance and the willingness to compromise for marital longevity. Her comments have ignited a conversation about the balance between traditional values and modern independence in Pakistani society.
Earlier, Sadia was involved in a controversy related to her mother, veteran actor Saba Faisal, who extolled the importance of having sons. Saba’s remarks about the security sons provide to their mothers faced swift condemnation, sparking a public exchange with fellow actor Hira Khan. Sadia defended her mother, calling for respect towards senior artists in the industry, thus continuing the debate on traditional family roles and modern expectations.
