Shehzad Roy Clarifies: ‘My Humanitarian Work Isn’t for Sawab’

Pakistani singer and social activist Shehzad Roy has clarified that his humanitarian efforts have never been about earning sawab (reward).
Roy, known for his dedication to humanitarian causes, is one of Pakistan’s leading artists deeply committed to making a difference. In addition to his contributions through music, he has been running the ‘Zindagi’ trust for several years, focusing on education.
Through this trust, Shehzad has made significant strides in improving Pakistan’s education sector, earning numerous prestigious civil awards from the government.
In a recent interview, Shehzad stated, “Everything I’ve done in education or healthcare has not been for the sake of earning sawab.” He explained that while his mother engages in charity with the intention of gaining rewards—such as financially helping those in need or supporting a poor person’s marriage—his focus is on reformative work.
Shehzad emphasized that treating education and healthcare as charity would lead to their deterioration. Instead, he aims to create equal opportunities in education, eliminating the distinction between the rich and the poor.
