Three Pakistani Celebrities to Receive Pride of Performance Awards
Each year, the Government of Pakistan honors outstanding individuals from various fields with prestigious awards.
A number of controversies have stirred over the past years pertaining to recipients of the top honours, especially regarding the nominees of the entertainment industry.
This year, only three individuals from the industry have been nominated for the President’s Award for Pride of Performance which will be granted next year, in 2025.
Here are the name of the celebrities:
Fariha Pervez
Fariha Pervez is a renowned pop singer-songwriter and music producer. She began her career with anchoring and acting in the early ’90s followed by a switch to music in the mid-’90s.
She gained special recognition for her renditions of various popular ghazals (a form of romantic poetry). She began her career at a young age, anchoring and acting on Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV). She also co-hosted the popular children’s music program “Aangan Aangan Taray.” After releasing her debut album “Nice & Naughty,” her song “Patang Baaz Sajna” (also known as the “Bo Kata” song) became an instant hit, propelling her musical career and leading her to focus solely on singing. Also her son ‘Lega‘ remained one of the best songs produced by Pakistani musical industry.
Hamid Rana
Hamid Rana, born in 1957, is a Pakistani stage and television actor who also appeared in Lollywood films. He began his acting career in the 1970s and quickly gained immense popularity through his performances in various television drama serials before transitioning to movies.
His portrayal of the character Sona in the Pakistan Television drama serial Sona Chandi earned him critical acclaim. Written by Munnu Bhai and directed by Shahzad Khalil, the show became a massive hit with audiences of all ages and is regarded as one of the most-watched television drama serials of its time in Pakistan.
Sheeba Arshad
Sheeba Arshad is a veteran actress who has been active in the entertainment industry for
decades. She is best known for her iconic role as Chandi in the PTV classic drama serial ‘Sona Chandi’, which aired in the 1980s.
