Umer Akmal Doesn’t Understand Why He’s not In the National Team

In a television show, Umer Akmal claimed spot-fixing allegations against him were unproven. Speaking with Imran Ashraf, the host of Mazaq Raat, a Dunya News production, Akmal expressed his lamentation about being detained for 24 hours during the PSL due to spot-fixing allegations.

He revealed that he was forced to stay in a room, with authorities preventing his wife and kids from meeting him. Akmal described the distressing situation where his kids stood at the door of the room, weeping, and he was unable to explain what was happening.

On asking why he was kept in confinement, Umer Akmal said, “Actually, they were forcing me to accept the spot-fixing allegations. They said if I accept the allegations, I would face a ban only for three months and rejoin the team. I told them I am ready to face lifetime ban, if they prove the proofs against me.”

Amidst applauds from the audience at the show, Umer Akmal said he told them he was willing to leave the country and apology to the fans if they prove spot-fixing allegations, but they failed to come up with proofs against him, the star added.

When the host asked him about the possibility of staging comeback to the national team, Umer Akmal said he was hopeful that he would soon rejoin the national team because he was playing domestic cricket with dedication and showing good performance.

I am playing good domestic cricket. But I don’t know why I am being kept out of the national team. I never let my country down. I deserve another chance to play in national team, Umer Akmal said.
