Urwa Hussain Slams Celebs for Prioritising Fans Over Country

Urwa Hussain called out fellow Pakistani celebrities for lacking self-respect and staying “neutral” while Pakistan faces accusations and backlash from India following the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
In an Instagram video, she questioned why actors aren’t defending their country when it’s being targeted. “When a murder happens in front of you and you’re wrongly blamed, your first instinct isn’t just grief—it’s to say, ‘Don’t accuse me, I didn’t do this.’ Why aren’t we doing the same for our nation?” she asked.
Without naming anyone, Hocane indirectly addressed celebrities like her sister Mawra Hocane and brother-in-law Farhan Saeed, who had expressed condolences after the attack and interacted warmly with Indian fans despite the backlash. She stressed that peace and kindness are important, but not at the cost of national dignity.
“If someone disrespects you, you don’t go back to their house,” she said, adding that international collaborations are fine, but when a crisis hits, artists must choose a side. “There’s no benefit bigger than self-respect,” she emphasized.
Hocane also questioned what Pakistani artists truly gained from India, arguing that local talent adds just as much value to cross-border projects. Quoting Spider-Man, she reminded celebrities: “With great power comes great responsibility.”
She concluded, “You owe everything to your country. It gave you a name. If you can draw boundaries with your own public, why not when your entire nation is under attack? This is not hate—it’s self-respect.”
