Why Is Mahira Khan Facing Fresh Criticism Now?

Leading Pakistani actor Mahira Khan’s comments on choosing traditional clothing have ignited an intense online debate.

In a conversation with renowned writer Anwar Maqsood at the Arts Council Karachi, Khan shared insights into her personal and professional life, discussing the influence of her family, particularly her late grandmother, on her upbringing. She revealed that her grandmother disapproved of sleeveless clothing, prompting her to avoid it out of respect.

“I was always cautious around my grandmother and avoided wearing sleeveless clothes,” Khan said.

The Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad star emphasized the importance of preserving cultural values, even as younger generations adapt to modern times. “This tarbiyat (upbringing) is essential and should remain intact,” she added.

Her views drew mixed reactions online, with some calling her statements ironic, noting the contrast between her views and her own clothing choices, while others praised her commitment to preserving traditional values.
