Maria B Files Complaint Against Barzakh

Maria B took to Instagram to announce her official complaint with the PTA, urging others to join her cause. In her post, she stated, “We have taken step 1 in our strategy to combat child grooming in Pakistan. Now we all have to join forces. Go and report this content on the PTA website. We have shown you how!! Together we will save our families Insha’Allah. Stay tuned for Step 2.”

Previously, she had shared a video on Instagram, questioning the series’ themes and asserting that, as Muslims, they should reject what she termed as propaganda promoting LGBTQ themes. Maria B accused ‘Barzakh’ of normalizing pre-marital sex and introducing themes of sexual grooming in children.

The Controversy Surrounding the Show

In her statement, Maria B claimed that the ‘Barzakh’ team was playing with emotions and misleading the Muslim community for financial gain. She referenced a past interview with actor Fawad Khan, suggesting that media portrayals of gay love could desensitize viewers to these themes. Directed by Asim Abbasi, ‘Barzakh’ features actors Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed, and Salman Shahid. The series incorporates mystical elements and explores themes of homosexuality and the afterlife. The plot centers around a 76-year-old recluse who reunites with his estranged family to celebrate his unconventional marriage to the spirit of his first love.

Earlier, Asim Abbasi defended the series when a fan criticized him for glorifying the LGBTQ agenda. The fan called for a boycott of the show, but Abbasi responded by saying, “With all due respect, if you find queer/non-heteronormative storylines ‘distasteful,’ please do not watch my content. Thank you.” The series has faced criticism on social media, with many users expressing disapproval of its storyline and themes.
