Falak Shabir Criticizes Atif Aslam Over Lack of Original Music

Falak Shabir, a prominent name in Pakistan’s pop music scene, has stirred controversy by taking a veiled jab at fellow singer Atif Aslam, urging artists to stop relying on classic qawwalis and focus on creating original music.

Falak, who gained popularity with his viral hit Roag and has delivered chartbusters like Ijazat, Tu Mera Dil, Kamli, Me aur Mein, and Soniye, expressed his frustration on Instagram. In his post, he emphasized the need for originality in the music industry and subtly criticized the overuse of legendary qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s iconic works.

Without naming anyone directly, Falak wrote, “Khan Shahab ko unki akhri aram gah main tu aram karnay dein please. And work on some originals.” His statement was perceived by fans as a clear dig at Atif Aslam, who recently released a rendition of one of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s famous qawwalis. The post sparked immediate buzz across social media platforms.

Reactions to Falak’s statement have been mixed. While many defended Atif Aslam, applauding his tribute to the legendary qawwal, others resonated with Falak’s call for creativity and originality. Some users accused Falak Shabir of being envious, suggesting that Atif’s widespread fame might have triggered the comment. On the other hand, a segment of fans supported Falak’s view, criticizing repetitive covers and calling for innovation in Pakistani music.
