Sonya Hussyn Was Offered a Film with Emraan Hashmi
During the interview, Sonya disclosed that she had received three film offers from India, a testament to her rising fame and talent. Among these offers, one stood out—a film with Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi. “For that one, I even had a meeting with the relevant people, but then the exchange with India stopped altogether,” she explained. This halt in collaboration was a result of the geopolitical tensions following the Uri attack, which led to a ban on Pakistani artists working in India.
Despite the missed opportunity, Sonya’s revelations highlights the interest Indian filmmakers have in Pakistani talent. She also mentioned other intriguing offers, including a Shakespearean adaptation of “Measure for Measure” and a sequel to a classic Santosh Kumar film. These offers highlight the versatility and appeal of Pakistani actors in the broader South Asian film industry.
Career Choices and Industry Challenges
Sonya’s career decisions reflect her thoughtful approach to choosing roles and her aspirations in the film industry. She expressed admiration for fellow Pakistani actor Ali Zafar, naming him as her top choice for an on-screen hero due to his charismatic presence. “I think he has that charm of a film hero. Fawad Khan also has charm, but acting-wise, I would prefer Ali Zafar,” she remarked.
Her openness about these opportunities also sheds light on the broader implications of political tensions on the arts and entertainment industry. The challenges faced by artists like Sonya due to these tensions highlight the need for greater cultural exchange and collaboration between neighboring countries.
