Mazhar Shah, Urdu and Punjabi Films Star, Remembered Today

It has been thirty-four years since the legendary actor Mazhar Shah passed away. He, the accomplished actor, departed on October 11, 1989. Today, on Wednesday, we commemorate his 34th death anniversary.

Mazhar Shah, originally known as Syed Munoor Ali Shah, was a versatile actor with a remarkable presence in both Urdu and Punjabi films. He was born in Lahore’s Gwalmandi area on January 31, 1923. His unique contribution to Punjabi cinema was the introduction of a novel style of villain, deviating from the traditional portrayals.

Mazhar Shah: A Legend in Cinema

He embarked on his career in Urdu films and swiftly gained recognition, particularly with the releases of “Bahrupiya” and “Rani Khan.”

In addition, Mazhar’s filmography is extensive, featuring a diverse range of titles including “Mazloum,” “Dhandan,” “Maa Patar,” “Ghaddar,” “Ferengi,” “Dachi,” “Waris Shah,” “Chodiyan,” “Sassi Pannu,” “Ran Mureed,” “Punjab Da Sher,” “Hath Jodi,” “Sir Da Sain,” “Dolly,” “Jagri Yaar,” and many others. Despite his portrayal as a hero in the film “Mahram Dil Da,” audiences consistently favoured his roles as a memorable antagonist in various cinematic offerings.
