Billboard Criticized for False Claim: Zayn Malik Sings ‘Tu Hai Kahan’ in Hindi

Billboard, the renowned American music and entertainment magazine, featured Zayn Malik’s collaboration with Pakistani band AUR in a reinterpretation of their 2023 chart-topping hit, ‘Tu Hai Kahan.’

In a post on their official Instagram account, Billboard introduced Zayn’s participation in the project, stating, “Zayn Malik has hopped on a remake of Tu Hai Kahan, the 2023 No. 1 hit from Pakistani trio AUR. ‘I love the song and have brought some of myself to it, I hope people love what we’ve done,’ he said of the new version, on which he sings in Hindi.?”

The Start of Controversy Regarding Billboard Statement

The post prompted a discussion in the comments, as multiple users observed that Zayn is singing in Urdu, not Hindi. One Instagram user questioned, “Did you intentionally write Hindi?” while another clarified, “The language is Urdu, not Hindi,” echoing the sentiment shared by several users.

More and more Instagram users started pointing out the obvious. “He collaborated with a Karachi-based R&B hip-hop group and he was singing in Urdu. Get your facts straight Billboard.” Yet another said, “It’s literally a hardcore Urdu song, what Hindi?” Despite the influx of comments correcting the language, the caption remained unchanged.

In response, singer Lauren Jauregui commented, urging Billboard to correct their mistake by stating, “There are a lot of comments here mentioning the actual language he’s speaking in: Urdu. Maybe correct the caption.” Her comment supported the numerous Pakistanis expressing the same sentiment in the comments. As of publishing this article, the caption had not been updated.
