Singer Masood Rana Remembered on His 28th Death Anniversary

Today marks the 28th death anniversary of the renowned playback singer Masood Rana. Masood Rana started his singing journey in 1962 when he debuted in the film ‘Inqalab.’ He remained one of the leading male voices in Urdu and Punjabi cinema for over three decades until his tragic passing in a road accident on October 4, 1995.

Melodies of Masood Rana: A Musical Journey

Masood Rana began his career in 1955 at Radio Pakistan, Hyderabad, and later formed a group in Karachi during the early 1960s alongside two other renowned figures in showbiz, Nadeem Baig and Akhlaq Ahmed.

His big break came when actor Saqi introduced him to producer-director Iqbal Shehzad and musician Deebo. His debut film song was featured in the 1962 movie ‘Inqalab,’ but he gained significant fame from his second film, ‘Banjaran,’ in the same year. He earned the ‘Pakistani Rafi’ title and consistently lived up to his reputation.

Masood Rana’s singing career spanned over 550 films, making him one of the most accomplished singers, following in the footsteps of Ahmed Rushdi.

Some of his notable songs include ‘Ae Watan Hum Hain Teri Shama Kay Parwanon Main’ from the film ‘Aag Ka Darya.’ Another memorable collaboration was ‘Sathio, Mujahido, Jaag Utha Hay Sara Watan’ (alongside Shaukat Ali) in the movie ‘Mujahid’ in 1965. During the 1965 war, he delivered the patriotic track ‘Yaad Karta Hai Zamana’ featured in the film ‘Hamrahi’ in 1965.
