Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s left-arm pacer, is set to become a father as his wife Ansha is expecting their first child.

The news was revealed by the national team’s red-ball coach Jason Gillespie, who mentioned, “Shaheen can miss the Bangladesh Test matches due to childbirth. We can give him some rest if he wants to stay with his wife until then.”

The couple’s nikah was solemnized in February 2023 at the Zakaria Mosque in Karachi, with their wedding and valima ceremonies taking place in September the same year. The wedding was held on September 19 at a local hotel in Karachi, attended by various current and former cricketers, including Babar Azam, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saeed Anwer, Sohail Khan, and Tanveer Ahmed. The valima was held in Islamabad on September 21.

Shaheen’s potential unavailability comes as the Green Shirts are set to face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series in August. Recently, Shaheen has been in the spotlight due to reports of misbehavior with coaches and management staff. Sources indicate that he had arguments with batting coach Mohammad Yousuf during Pakistan’s tour to England, just before the T20 World Cup 2024.

Additionally, he was involved in a captaincy saga where he was replaced by Babar Azam as the white-ball skipper in March and later declined the vice-captaincy role offered by the Pakistan Cricket Board for the recently concluded T20 World Cup.
