Today Marks the Death Anniversary of Iconic Poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz

Monday marks the 39th death anniversary of the revolutionary poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz. Born on February 13, 1911, in Kala Qader, Narowal district, Punjab.

Faiz was a prominent Progressive Writers’ Movement figure and a committed Marxist. In 1962, he received the Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union. Posthumously, Faiz was honoured by the Pakistani Government with the nation’s highest civil award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz, in 1990.

Faiz’s poetry, known for its timeless quality and multi-layered resonances across cultures, earned him admiration and recognition. In 2018, the distinguished academic Anjum Altaf paid tribute by transforming and adapting Faiz’s poems into the collection “Transgressions: Poems Inspired by Faiz Ahmad Faiz.”

His notable literary works, including ‘Naqsh-e-Faryadi,’ ‘Dast-e-Saba,’ ‘Zindan-Nama,’ ‘Dast-e-Tah-e-Sung,’ ‘Mere Dil Mere Musafir,’ and ‘Sar-e-Wadi-e-Sina,’ are compiled in the book ‘Nuskha Haa-e-Wafa.’

Faiz passed away in Lahore on November 20, 1984.
