Accuracy and sourcing
Every factual claim we publish must be traceable to a source we can identify: an on-the-record interview, a document, a verified social media post by the person concerned, an official statement, or another publication's reporting, credited by name. We do not publish rumour as fact. Where a claim is disputed, we say so, and we say who disputes it.
Anonymous sources are used sparingly, only when the information is in the public interest and cannot be obtained on the record. At least one editor must know the source's identity, and we explain to readers why anonymity was granted.
