The pre-launch of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s lost album ‘Chain of Light’ has ignited excitement among music enthusiasts worldwide. This recently rediscovered album by the legendary Pakistani qawwali singer is set to be officially released on September 20, but a series of pre-launch events are already generating buzz. The project is a collaborative effort between Pakistan-based Saiyna Bashir Studios, which is also producing a documentary on the maestro titled *Ustad*, and Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records, who first recorded the album in 1990.

The pre-launch journey of ‘Chain of Light’ began with an event in Islamabad, and is now set to continue in Lahore and Karachi before moving to international venues. The album features previously unheard recordings of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan at the peak of his vocal prowess, including pristine versions of the qawwali classics “Ya Allah Ya Rehman” and “Ya Gaus Ya Meeran.” Carefully restored from original analogue tapes, this lost album is a find for fans of traditional qawwali.

The pre-launch events, supported by the British Council, will tour several major cities, including Manchester, Birmingham, Paris, and London. Each event will not only preview the album but also include a teaser for the upcoming documentary *Ustad*, offering a glimpse into the life and career of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

A Historic Collaboration

The pre-launch events are more than just a celebration of *Chain of Light*; they also honor the unique partnership between Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Peter Gabriel. The British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott, highlighted the significance of this cross-cultural collaboration during the Islamabad event. The celebrations will culminate in London on September 19, just one day before the album’s official release, making the pre-launch of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s lost album *Chain of Light* a momentous occasion in the world of music.

“This evening, we celebrate one of the most legendary figures in Pakistani music and his remarkable partnership with the iconic Peter Gabriel. Theirs was a partnership grounded in deep friendship and mutual admiration that transcended borders, cultures and genres to create something truly extraordinary,” said Jane Marriott.
