Abida Parveen Has Heart Attack

Folk and sufi singer Abida Parveen had a heart attack late last night. Soon ahead she was moved to ICU where she has to be kept under observation for the next 24 hours.

According to doctors, she underwent angioplasty operation and is under observation at ICU for 24 hours, as this span has been termed vital for the singer.

The sufi singer received heart attack last night and later that night, she was admitted to a local hospital.

The doctors have said she is out of danger and would be shifted to room in the next 12 hours.

For those of you who don’t know Abida Parveen:

Abida Parveen was born in 1954. The singer is of Sindhi descent and one of the foremost exponents of Sufi music (Sufiana kalaam). She sings mainly ghazals, Urdu love songs, and her forte, Kafis, a solo genre accompanied by percussion and harmonium, using a repertoire of songs by Sufi poets.

Parveen sings in Urdu, Sindhi, Seraiki, Punjabi and Persian, and together with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is considered one of the finest Sufi vocalists of the modern era.

A few years ago she has taken a Bay’ah, and formally entered into the tutelage of a spiritual master, Muhammad Najeeb Sultan. She has expressed Muhammad Najeeb Sultan as her spiritual master in many songs. In December 2009 she launched an album in his name.
