Taha G’s New Track Features Self-Defeat Theme

Taha G has released another hit! In his latest song, “Andheri Raat,” the singer explores a darker territory in sound and visuals. Like his previous love songs, this one skillfully combines Western and Eastern elements. However, it delves deeper into the nuances of Taha’s various moods, featuring a blend of love and wit.
Starting with a homage to Ghalib, it almost functions as a sequel to the 2020 bittersweet track, becoming darker and grittier. While in “Ghalib,” Taha curses himself for falling deeply in love with someone he labels an “azaab” (a curse), in “Andheri Raat,” he discusses the repercussions of this love (interpreted as addiction) and how, while searching for it, he has lost himself.
The undertones also prompt one to consider whether Taha is gaining a greater awareness of his alter-ego, an entity he cannot seem to evade. This theme is also conveyed in the music video, where he confronts his inner demons quite literally, though his efforts prove futile.
Musically, the song blends sick, heavy trap beats with the sounds of a tabla and sitar. It also incorporates elements from hip-hop and R&B, layering a complex range of emotions with intriguing string arrangements, including violins and cellos in the background to intensify the eerie atmosphere. The harmonies and melodies, sung and played, contribute to this chilling ambience.
In “Andheri Raat,” Taha mainly incorporates Arabic music, evoking images of the desert and belly dancers, perhaps aiming to create an even more otherworldly sound.
