Top TV hosts Shahzeb Khanzada and Tabish Hashmi recently bonded over their shared childhood experiences of being thrashed by schoolteachers, with Shahzeb recounting how his mother once came to his rescue when he was in sixth grade.
The conversation unfolded on Tabish’s show Hasna Mana Hai, where he asked Shahzeb how he managed to make it big despite humble beginnings. Shahzeb shared that growing up in a small village in Sindh, his parents always encouraged him to ask questions — a habit that once got him into trouble. He recalled being slapped hard by his teacher in sixth grade simply for being too inquisitive.
Feeling humiliated, Shahzeb went home in tears. His mother, noticing the marks on his face, demanded to know what had happened. When he told her, she decided to confront the school headmaster herself — something quite uncommon for women in their village at the time. Draped in her black burka, she accompanied her son to school.
Shahzeb remembered her telling the headmaster she wasn’t angry about the slap itself but about the reason behind it — punishing a child for asking questions. Though he initially felt embarrassed that his mother had to intervene, he said teachers never hit him again afterward, even as others continued to be beaten.
