Ahmed Ali Butt criticizes Javed Akhtar, asks why Indian artists lack respect
Renowned Pakistani actor and comedian Ahmed Ali Butt has publicly criticized Indian poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar, stating that respect shown to certain Indian artists is not reciprocated.
On his YouTube podcast, Butt remarked that Akhtar’s artistic value has declined, describing him as “more of a blemish than a contributor to art.” He recalled Akhtar’s visit to Pakistan last year, during which Butt claimed the country showed him great respect—only for Akhtar to later make remarks against it.
“I have realized that you cannot expect respect from Indians, and they do not deserve our respect either,” Butt stated, adding that while he prefers peace, a lack of mutual respect in the face of goodwill justifies criticism.
His major acting breakthrough came with the popular sitcom “Bulbulay”? (2009-present), where he plays the iconic role of Mehmood, earning him widespread recognition and a loyal fanbase. In the film industry, he gained acclaim for his performances in comedy-dramas like “Karachi Se Lahore”? (2015) and its sequel “Lahore Se Aagey”? (2016), establishing himself as a bankable comic actor. Beyond acting, Butt was also the frontman of the rock band “Entity Paradigm”? (EP) in the early 2000s, contributing to the Pakistani music scene with hits like “Hamesha” and “Woh.” His recent work includes hosting the YouTube podcast “Excuse Me” where he discusses current affairs and entertainment topics.
