Aima Baig to Perform at Champions One-Day Cup Opening
Renowned Pakistani singer Aima Baig will take the stage today at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium for the opening ceremony of the Champions One-Day Cup. Following her performance, the highly anticipated match between Mohammad Rizwan’s UMT Markhors and Shadab Khan’s Panthers will kick off.
Aima’s performance is set to boost the excitement of the star-studded tournament, which will feature Pakistan’s top cricket talent across five teams. The tournament begins at 3 p.m. local time, serving as a platform for standout players to enhance their chances for national team selection ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
With a total prize pool of RS 49 million, the winner will take home RS 30 million, while the runner-up will receive RS 15 million. The tournament, held in a single-league format, will conclude with the final on September 29 at the same venue.
Five teams are participating, each led by prominent captains and mentors. Saud Shakeel will captain the Dolphins, with Sarfaraz Ahmed as their mentor; Shaheen Shah Afridi will lead the Lions, with Waqar Younis guiding them; Mohammad Haris will captain the Stallions, supported by Shoaib Malik; Mohammad Rizwan will captain the Markhors, mentored by Misbah-ul-Haq; and Shadab Khan will lead the Panthers, with Saqlain Mushtaq as their mentor.
Most matches will begin at 3 p.m. local time, except for the September 16 Lions vs. Panthers match, which starts at 9:30 a.m. The tournament consists of 13 league matches and three playoff games, culminating in the final on Sunday, September 29.
