Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s celebrated athlete who won the country’s first-ever Olympic gold in track events, recently shared why he shifted from cricket to javelin throwing. Cricket, being the most popular and lucrative sport in Pakistan, often overshadows other sports. It garners significant state support, business investment, and fan attention, even for players who aren't top performers. Despite this, many cricketers end up disappointing fans.
Nadeem, known for his dedication and hard work, initially dreamed of becoming a cricketer. He played as a fast bowler but faced numerous challenges due to a lack of resources. After struggling in cricket, he tried other sports like football and kabbadi, before discovering javelin throwing. His transition to javelin was a turning point, and he went on to become the world’s top athlete in the sport.
