Veteran actor Asma Abbas shared her progressive views on women’s roles during a recent appearance on Good Morning Pakistan. Appearing alongside her youngest daughter-in-law, Sameen Ahmed, Asma discussed family dynamics, responsibilities, and women’s empowerment in a special segment focused on mother- and daughter-in-law relationships. Her son Ahmed married Sameen earlier this year.
Throughout the segment, Asma emphasized the importance of education and actively encouraged all her daughters-in-law to pursue careers. “They’ve earned their degrees, and those shouldn’t go to waste,” she said, challenging societal expectations that often push women to abandon their careers after marriage. She argued that women deserve opportunities for both personal and professional growth.
Asma noted that her other two daughters-in-law also work while managing their homes. “What will they do sitting at home? We have house help,” she said confidently, reinforcing the belief that women don’t need to sacrifice their independence for domestic responsibilities. Her remarks stood out as unusually supportive in a traditionally conservative family setting.
Sameen praised her in-laws for their kindness and understanding. She recalled how they welcomed her warmly, even when she woke up late on her first day after marriage—defying stereotypes of rigid in-law expectations. Asma laughed and added, “It reminds me of Zara, she also loves her sleep,” creating a light moment during the segment.
