Senior actress Asma Abbas revealed that her husband prevented her from working in showbiz for 18 years after their marriage, explaining her absence from the drama industry. In a recent interview with journalist Maleeha Rehman, Abbas openly discussed her career and personal life.

“After marriage, my husband, an army officer, stopped me from working in the entertainment industry because he didn’t approve of it,” she said. “With his frequent transfers, it became difficult for me to work in showbiz, so I stayed away for 18 years,” she added. However, her husband later grew more accepting of the industry, allowing her to return to dramas after nearly two decades.

Abbas also touched on her daughter Zara Noor Abbas’s early struggles in the entertainment world, saying, “At the start of her career, Zara trusted too easily and faced betrayals. She soon realized that showbiz isn’t as friendly as it seems.”

Discussing award shows, Abbas commented, “In Pakistan, only Lux and Hum Awards exist, and many deserving people are overlooked. I played a strong role in ‘Chupke Chupke,’ yet wasn’t even nominated or invited. I know I’ll never receive an award, but I don’t need one now.”

Reflecting on her marriage, she shared, “I married a serving army colonel at just 23.” Despite her husband’s restrictions, Abbas emphasized she never imposed similar limits on her daughter’s career.
