Did Babar Azam Retire from Test Cricket?

Babar Azam

Pakistan’s cricket star, Babar Azam, has announced his retirement from Test cricket after a disappointing performance in Rawalpindi against Bangladesh, marking a significant moment in his career.

The slightly detailed announcement, which included the message “Khuda Hafiz Test Cricket” and a thumbprint from a parody account of Babar, sparked surprise among cricket fans. However, both posts that appeared on Monday were entirely fictional.

Who is Babar Azam?

Babar Azam, Pakistan cricket team’s batting star, faces heavy criticism on social media platforms following poor performances in international cricket. His lackluster batting last year failed to secure any victories for Pakistan, leading social media users to target him with offensive memes. Recently, fake posts about his retirement have gone viral.

After stepping down as captain following the ODI World Cup 2023, Babar was reinstated for the T20 World Cup 2024. However, his recent form in Test cricket has been disappointing, with just 190 runs at an average of 19 in his last 10 innings, while his average in the 50-over format dropped to 34 last year. Despite these struggles, the 29-year-old cricketer has maintained an average of 38 in T20 cricket. Under Babar’s captaincy, Pakistan exited the T20 World Cup 2024 at the group stage after losses to the USA and India.
