Punjabi vocalist Diljit Dosanjh has revealed a deeply intimate incident, disclosing that a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan qawwali once reduced him to tears just before he needed to step on stage for a performance.
During a recent Instagram Live session, Dosanjh recounted what occurred while he was getting ready for yoga ahead of his upcoming Milan performance.
He said he played “Man Atkeya Beparwah De Naal” and when the lyrics “Qazi mulla matti dinde, khare siyane raah dasinde [The judges and clerics (formal authorities) give textbook lectures, the truly wise actually show you the path]” came up, something “broke” deep inside him.
“After hearing those words, I sat down on my yoga mat and started crying,” Dosanjh said.
He kept describing how profoundly the lyrics moved him. “After hearing all those words, I don’t know how deeply they hit me. I was weeping my heart out. I cried for around five to ten minutes, and then I began yoga.”
