Pakistani actor Atiqa Odho has claimed that several educational institutions in Lahore have stopped allowing drama shootings on their campuses after the controversy surrounding the popular drama Main Manto Nahin Hoon.
The series, starring Humayun Saeed as a professor and Sajal Aly as his student, has received both praise and criticism for its unusual plot depicting a romantic relationship between a teacher and a student. The storyline has triggered widespread debate on social media and within academic circles.
Speaking on the show Kya Drama Hai, Odho said the backlash has had real consequences.
“The romantic storyline between a professor and a student in Main Manto Nahin Hoon has sparked major debate in Lahore,” she said. “Because of this, many universities have decided to ban drama shootings on their campuses.”
Odho added that she recently visited Lahore and was told that the decision came directly in response to the controversy surrounding the drama.
