Syed Jibran Apologizes for Criticizing Haris Rauf After Asia Cup Loss

Jibran

Pakistani actor Syed Jibran apologized for harshly criticizing fast bowler Haris Rauf after Pakistan lost to India in the Asia Cup 2025 final.

Jibran used Instagram to admit his mistake and expressed regret over his reaction. He wrote that he felt bad the next morning when he realized he had unfairly singled out one player. He added that the defeat was not the fault of an individual but a combined effort and said sorry for his words, noting that he expected better of himself.

After the final, Jibran had posted strong language and emojis resembling cursing hand gestures directed at Rauf and the person who gave him the last over. His anger came after Rauf bowled an expensive spell, conceding 50 runs in 22 balls, which made him the costliest bowler for Pakistan and placed him at the center of the team’s defeat.

Several other celebrities also criticized the pacer. Yasir Hussain, an actor and writer, mocked Rauf’s earlier plane crash gesture and said that players should focus on cricket instead of hand signs. Actress Amna Malik posted on Instagram that Haris Rauf deserved a slap and sarcastically told him to fly planes now. Actor Aijaz Aslam also expressed his frustration with a sarcastic comment thanking Rauf for the humiliation.

Pakistan’s heavy defeat in the final disappointed fans and celebrities alike, as many had hoped for a strong comeback in the tournament.

On the work front, Syed Jibran is appearing in the drama Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi, which has earned praise for its unique storyline.

Bushra Ansari calls for more issue-based Pakistani TV dramas

Bushra

For actor Bushra Ansari, the biggest flaw in today’s television is not merely what appears on screen, but what is conspicuously absent: the real social and economic struggles of ordinary Pakistanis.

With decades in the industry, the veteran actor, singer and writer said she has little desire to revisit the tired loop of domestic squabbles and saas-bahu tropes. In an interview, she expressed a wish to see TV pose difficult questions, probe the origins of societal ills and offer audiences food for thought.

“I haven’t been writing for four years,” Bushra said, explaining that most current productions fail to engage her.

Her passion, she clarified, remains with issue-driven narratives. For Bushra, merely showcasing poverty, abuse, failing schools, dangerous roads or broken institutions is insufficient; a story must investigate why these conditions persist. “There should be root causes,” she insisted.

Recalling the television she grew up with and later joined, Bushra remembered an era when entertainment was deeply tied to literature and lived experience. “We didn’t have the idea of a heroine in our heads,” she said. “We wanted good characters,” she added.

Her generation, she noted, was shaped by a broader cultural landscape. “We used to watch films such as Gone with the Wind, read Wuthering Heights and follow Indian cinema. Literature, theatre, music and daily life all fed into what we made for TV,” she said.

Bushra added, “We used to do realistic, reality-based work.”

She cited Alif Noon as one example of a production that remains memorable decades later. She viewed that kind of storytelling as a vital function of television: to entertain while also prompting viewers to observe, question and learn.

“It’s a sad thing to say we don’t have that now,” she said, reflecting on the shifts she has witnessed over time.

The actor also spoke about her journey to becoming a PTV icon. “When I was born, I was like, I will be a singer,” she recalled. “I joined PTV in 1968 and used to do singing programmes. When I was around 15 or 16, I was even approached for drama roles, but my father was hesitant until I got married to a director,” Bushra shared.

Her career grew through singing contests and acting offers. Marriage did not end her professional life; her husband, a director, encouraged her to keep working.

Looking back at the 1980s TV industry as a space for creative risk-taking, she recalled being made to wear a burqa for a comic sketch and another production where the director used an exaggerated costume prop for laughs.

The openness to experiment extended to serious subjects too. Bushra recalled working on dramas about age, relationships and other themes that might still provoke discussion today.

The key, she suggested, was that television once engaged with real issues rather than churning out formulas. “We used to make topics on lessons that matter, which I believe is important to do every five years or so to remind people,” she noted.

For an industry she entered as a young singer in 1968, Bushra’s message remains remarkably steady: entertainment must not shy away from real life.
