Adnan Sami Reacts to Kullu’s Joke About Him on Samay's India’s Got Latent

Singer Adnan Sami has found himself at the centre of a fresh social media joke after comedian Aaditya Kulshreshth, popularly known as Kullu, made a reference to him while discussing Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming film Udta Teer on Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent.

Khurrana appeared on the show alongside mentalist Suhani Shah and comedian Rajat Sood as he spoke about the film. When the guests were asked whether he had actually come to promote Udta Teer, the actor quickly replied, “Nahi, bilkul bhi nahi,” before going on to explain the unusual premise of the movie.

Khurrana described Udta Teer as “India’s first patriotic comedy” and revealed that it revolves around a Pakistani spy who travels to India and subsequently loses his memory. The character remembers that he is patriotic but forgets which country he actually belongs to.

Explaining his role, Khurrana said, “Spy main hoon. Pakistani spy India mein aur uski yaaddasht chali jaati hai aur woh sochta hai ki woh Indian hai. Toh usko deshbhakti toh yaad hai, but desh kaun sa hai, woh bhool jaata hai.”

The explanation immediately gave Kullu an opportunity for a one-line punchline. As Khurrana described the confused spy, the comedian interrupted with, “Woh Adnan Sami hai.”

The remark quickly made its way across social media after the India’s Got Latent page shared a clip of the exchange. Sami himself noticed the joke and decided to respond rather than let it pass unnoticed. Sharing his reaction to the clip, the singer wrote, “Pehle Mujhse ‘Rights’ Lo Aur Phir Film Banao!!!!” suggesting that the makers should first get the rights from him before turning the joke into a film.

Sami’s response went viral, with social media users joining in with their own jokes. One user commented, “Adnan ko ku tora,” while another called him “Our major Adnan.” Others continued the spy-themed humour, with one person writing, “Don’t reveal our secret agent’s identity,” while another joked that the singer’s jokes were a favourite from the old Twitter days.

The reference to Sami comes from a long-running online joke surrounding his background and citizenship. Born in Pakistan, Sami became an Indian citizen in 2016. His decision has previously made him the subject of trolling from both sides of the India-Pakistan social media conversation, with some Pakistani users targeting him over his decision to take Indian citizenship, while some Indian social media users have at different times referred to him as a Pakistani agent or questioned his loyalty.

Sami has also responded to such comments on several occasions, particularly when his social media posts touch on India or the Indian Army.
