Roma Riaz, Pakistan’s proud representative at this year’s Miss Universe pageant in Thailand, has delivered a message that’s fierce; she refuses to apologise for looking like her people. After facing online criticism from those claiming she doesn’t look “Pakistani enough,” Roma took to Instagram with a fiery response, reminding everyone that beauty isn’t confined to one shade or stereotype.

In her emotional reel, she called out the deep-rooted colourism that continues to haunt South Asian societies, the obsession with fairness that often overshadows the beauty of real, diverse Pakistani skin tones. “I am Pakistani in my roots, in my values, and in every shade of my skin,” she declared confidently, adding that her complexion mirrors the women “who built our homes, nurtured our families, and carried our nation in their hearts.”

Roma Riaz made it clear that she stands not just for herself, but for an entire generation of South Asian women who don’t fit into the rigid moulds of traditional beauty. “I represent Pakistan and I represent every girl who’s been told she’s too dark, too bold, or too different,” she said.

Switching to Urdu, Roma directly addressed Pakistanis, questioning why so many people tear down their own. “I tell the world our people are Pakistan’s greatest beauty yet the same people spread hate online,” she lamented. Urging her critics to think before they speak, Roma asked them not to sabotage her efforts to portray a positive image of Pakistan on the global stage.

Her recent choice to wear a sari during a Miss Universe event also went viral, but Roma stood firm, saying, “The sari is as Pakistani as the shalwar kameez. I won’t let our heritage be rewritten or erased.”

In a recent interview, he also confirmed that he has completed writing his next murder mystery project, Case No. 10, following the strong response to his debut drama.

Speaking candidly, Khanzada revealed that many characters in Case No. 9 were rooted in real people and lived experiences. He explained that the Hindu characters Rohit and Manisha were inspired by someone close to him, adding that the intention was to portray minority communities in Pakistan with honesty and dignity. According to Khanzada, his personal interactions, particularly in Sindh, often contrast with the common narratives surrounding minorities.

He noted that discussions about minority rights on his television program frequently triggered unexpected gratitude from members of minority communities, a reaction he described as both eye-opening and troubling. For him, this response highlighted how deeply marginalized these voices still are and why authentic representation matters.

Khanzada further shared that several characters were drawn from individuals within his own professional circle.
