Saba Qamar Urges Support for Women, Children in Sindh
On October 11, 2024, UNICEF appointed actress Saba Qamar as Pakistan’s first national ambassador for child rights. Qamar shared her experience on Instagram, posting a video of her visit to Sujawal.
In her message, she wrote: “As a national ambassador, I spent time with women and children in Sindh, listening to their stories and seeing their strength and struggles. While their spirit is beautiful, they still lack basic necessities and support. I’m asking for your help, ideas, and voice to bring hope to these communities. Together, we can create real change.”
In an interview with Independent Urdu, Qamar expressed her thoughts after visiting Karachi: “I’ve been in Karachi for three days, and I met young girls, children, and women. I was happy to see UNICEF’s efforts in providing education and medicine, but these children still need clean water and a safe environment. I need my nation’s support to make this happen, and together we can bring about change.”
She also shared a story about a girl named Anam, who was preparing for marriage and had a “fire in her eyes,” admiring how UNICEF is raising awareness and providing education.
Qamar acknowledged that much more work remains to be done in many areas across Pakistan, but she is inspired by the progress she witnessed. “Each girl represents a society.
Educating one child brings change to a whole community. I’ve seen confidence and passion in these girls, and I’m hopeful about the future,” she said.
