Talha Anjum Gets Legal Notice for Waving Indian Flag at Concert

Talha Anjum

Talha Anjum has received a legal notice from a Pakistani citizen after he draped himself in an Indian flag during a concert in Kathmandu, Nepal, last week.

According to the notice, the rapper’s actions are alleged to have “caused widespread outrage, mental distress, and serious harm to the national, patriotic, and religious sentiments of millions of Pakistanis at home and abroad,” further aggravating already fraught relations between Pakistan and India, marked by historic conflicts, border issues, and ongoing security concerns.

The notice calls for an “unconditional public apology” from Anjum and warns that failure to comply will lead to the filing of an FIR and the initiation of criminal proceedings.

Online, however, opinion remains sharply divided. Some social media users questioned the backlash, pointing out that Pakistani audiences have previously celebrated Indian artists and others waving Pakistan’s flag. One user wrote that people had “no issue when Sidhu Moose Wala and others waved the Pakistani flag,” asking why this situation was different. Another urged Anjum not to back down, calling the act a goodwill gesture that “didn’t harm the country in any way.”

Others supported the legal action, expressing anger at what they saw as misplaced goodwill. “They kill our soldiers, insult our country and all the goodwill goes to them?” one commenter wrote sarcastically, calling the move “a really amazing step.”

The controversy began when Anjum caught an Indian flag thrown toward the stage by a fan, then raised it and wrapped it around himself. In response to criticism, the rapper stood firm. He wrote that his “heart has no place for hate” and that “art has no borders,” adding that if raising the Indian flag sparked controversy, he would “do it again,” insisting he would never bow to media narratives or “war-mongering governments and their propaganda,” and that Urdu rap “is and always will be borderless.”

Reactions on both sides of the border have continued to clash. Some Pakistanis condemned Anjum for embracing an Indian symbol despite what they described as India’s hostility toward Pakistan, referencing allegations of terrorism, civilian killings, and even restrictions on his own YouTube content. One X user linked his stance to his supposed political sympathies, criticising him as “busy lifting and wearing an Indian flag” while accusing India of harming Pakistan.

Meanwhile, many fans praised Anjum’s stance. An Indian supporter described his move as “commendable,” noting that even if it drew views, he clearly understood the backlash he would face from Pakistanis yet went ahead regardless.

I visited courts for two years, yet I couldn’t recover my hard-earned money. You’re right—I could have gone to the media, but when a person goes through trauma, such things don’t come to mind. I was literally suffering during my court days because when famous people like us go to court while covering our faces and people still recognize us, it becomes a cultural shock to see ourselves in such a weak position.”

Namra Shahid On Muamma & Working With Saba Qamar

Namra Shahid is a main-stream Pakistani television and film actor who began her career in 2016. Her most popular television shows include hits like Shahrukh Ki Saaliyaan, Saheliyaan, Saya-e-Deewar Bhi Nahi, Shiddat, Bholi Bano, Darr Khuda Se, Romeo Weds Heer, and Aye Musht-e-Khaak. Recently, fans praised her acting in Mohra, and these days she is receiving widespread acclaim for her outstanding performance in Hum TV’s Muamma. Viewers are also praising her on-screen chemistry with Saba Qamar and the storyline between Jiji and Asiya.

Recently, Namra Shahid appeared on Fuchsia Magazine’s popular YouTube show, hosted by Rabia Mughni. During the show, she discussed how she landed the role in Muamma and shared her experience working alongside Saba Qamar.

Talking about the Muamma offer, Namra Shahid said, “I was called by Irum Bint-e-Shahid from HUM TV. She said, ‘We are doing a big project with a big cast and the character is very strong. It is the role of Jahanara’s attendant.’ I was shocked and said to her, ‘Is this why I gave ten years to the industry—to accept a maid’s role?’ She then explained that it is an important character because the whole story revolves around Jahanara and Asiya, and that it is not a typical saas-bahu drama. She also told me that Saba Qamar is playing Jahanara. When I heard Saba Qamar’s name, I said, ‘I’m sold.’ I didn’t even read the script at first. Later, I asked for the script, and after reading five episodes, I was blown away. It was amazing, and working with Saba Qamar itself was a great opportunity.”

Talking about her relationship with Jahanara, aka Jiji, she said, “Asiya is loyal and wants to stay with Jiji because the way the script is written, it feels like Asiya is Jiji’s right hand. I think people didn’t perceive it the way it was written, or maybe it couldn’t be portrayed that way. Now, after seeing this episode, Asiya knows what happened in Jiji’s life. Jiji is now left with only one relationship, and that is Asiya. I also don’t understand why people think Asiya and Ashiq are not husband and wife. How is that even possible? There is a mystery behind the two separate beds in the room.”
