Deepak Perwani, renowned for his contributions to both fashion and acting, has voiced concerns over the restrictive state of Pakistani entertainment. While his fashion empire has cemented his legacy, his recent role in the drama Qarz-e-Jaan has brought him back to the small screen. However, Perwani believes that despite international acclaim, Pakistan’s drama industry remains creatively stifled due to heavy censorship and outdated storytelling patterns.
Deepak Perwani on Industry Limitations
In a recent appearance on the DigiTales podcast, Deepak Perwani highlighted the major hurdles restricting the evolution of Pakistani entertainment. He pointed out that despite their popularity, local dramas are constrained by stringent PEMRA regulations. According to him, even the depiction of simple elements like red blood is banned, making it impossible to produce crime thrillers or realistic narratives. Furthermore, absurd restrictions—such as prohibiting married couples from sitting together on the same bed—limit creative storytelling, forcing producers to rely on repetitive themes.
