Fashion designer Deepak Parwani has over Pakistan's urban development after openly praising Lahore's infrastructure while describing Karachi as a city left behind. His remarks caught the attention of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who had a rather brief but welcoming response when the designer suggested moving to Lahore.

Taking to X, Parwani shared his appreciation for several prominent areas of Lahore, including the Central Business District (CBD), MM Alam Road, Main Boulevard and the route leading to the airport. What particularly impressed him was the city's network of underpasses, landscaped surroundings and greenery, which he felt gave Lahore a completely different appearance.

Comparing the experience with Karachi, the designer did not hold back, describing the metropolis as dark, depressing, potholed and ugly. Suggesting that it might be time for a change of scenery, he wrote:

"Time to move to #lahore just beautiful #cbd #mmalam #mainboulevard and the entrance to the airport just a different level. Beautiful underpasses greenery. While #karachi is dark depressing potholed and ugly! Definitely left behind."

His comments soon attracted attention, particularly after Maryam Nawaz joined the conversation. Responding directly to Parwani's post, the Punjab chief minister welcomed him with a short message, writing, "Most welcome bro".

Lahore's recent development projects have played a big role in shaping the areas that caught Parwani's attention. One such initiative is Route-47, which connects Kalma Chowk and Gulberg with Walton Road through the newly developed CBD Main Boulevard and a flyover.

The Rs13 billion project forms part of the broader Central Business District-Walton infrastructure development scheme. It also includes the remodelling of Kalma Chowk, featuring two underpasses designed to improve connectivity. One provides a link to the CBD, while the other connects Centre Point with Firdous Market.

Beyond road infrastructure, the development scheme also covers improvements to essential urban facilities. According to a report published by a private media outlet in April 2025, the project includes sewerage, water supply, telephone and gas infrastructure, along with green spaces, parking facilities and commercial plazas. These developments are intended to support the creation of the country's first skyline of skyscrapers.

However, Karachi has not been left out of infrastructure rehabilitation plans. The Sindh government has also announced substantial funding aimed at addressing the city's long-standing road and traffic problems.
