Actor Gohar Rasheed has found himself at the center of an online debate after sharing his views on some of the slogans and posters displayed during Aurat March, a movement that has long generated mixed reactions across Pakistan.
Over the years, Aurat March has remained one of the country's most talked-about annual events. While supporters describe it as a platform for raising awareness about women's rights and gender equality, critics have often questioned whether certain placards and slogans accurately reflect the movement's core message. The discussion resurfaced once again after Gohar Rasheed addressed the issue during a recent appearance.
Speaking about the subject, Gohar emphasized that women should never be objectified in any form of entertainment or public discourse. He argued that so-called "item numbers" in films and television contribute to the objectification of women and, for that reason, should not be promoted.
Drawing a comparison, the actor said he also disagrees with what he described as vulgar or overly explicit posters seen at some Aurat March events. According to Gohar, important social issues deserve to be discussed with dignity and respect, adding that strong messages can be delivered in a more refined and sophisticated manner without losing their impact.
His remarks quickly made the rounds on social media, where users expressed sharply divided opinions. Many supported the actor's perspective, agreeing that public campaigns should communicate their message without using language or imagery they consider inappropriate. One social media user commented that Gohar's criticism was valid and predicted that Aurat March supporters would likely disagree with him.
