What Sparked Controversy Around Saba Qamar and Nauman Ijaz?
Renowned actors Saba Qamar and Nauman Ijaz, celebrated for their exceptional talent and significant contributions to the entertainment industry, have once again found themselves at the center of a heated controversy following the release of a new video from their upcoming OTT series, Mr. and Mrs. Shamim.
In the video, reportedly captured on set by Saba Qamar herself, the actress is seen addressing Nauman Ijaz with the term “Bhagwan.”
Once the video made its way onto social media, it ignited a wave of public reactions and divided opinions online. Many viewers took to social platforms to voice their disapproval, interpreting the use of “Bhagwan” as an intentional reference to the Hindu deity and finding it culturally insensitive. On the other hand, some supporters rallied in defense of Saba Qamar, explaining that “Bhagwan” can also be used as an honorific in South Asian languages, meaning “Respected Sir” or “Exalted One,” depending on the context. This interpretation, they argued, was intended as a mark of respect rather than as a religious reference.
This isn’t the first time the series has stirred controversy. An earlier promotional video had already sparked backlash among fans, who criticized what they felt was an overly intimate or inappropriate portrayal of the characters, leading to debates over the boundaries of on-screen chemistry.
Amidst the escalating discussions, both actors remain in the spotlight as their series approaches release, adding yet another layer of complexity to the mixed public reception surrounding Mr. and Mrs. Shamim.
