Khumariyaan Welcomes Vocalist Obaid Khan
Khumariyaan announced on Instagram that they’ve added Pakhtun vocalist Obaid Khan to their band, receiving widespread support from fans. In the post, the band expressed their goal to incorporate “languages of our land,” including various languages of Pakistan, into their music.
Founded by rubab player Farhan ‘Bogey’ Bogra in 2005 and officially forming in 2009, Khumariyaan is known as an instrumental band. Bogra has consistently highlighted the equal contribution of all members: Bogra on rubab, Shiraz Khan on zerbaghali, Sparlay Rawail on lead guitar, and Aamer Shafiq on rhythm guitar.
Over the years, the band has represented Pakistan on international platforms, such as the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Texas. After over a decade of promoting music from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bogra believes the band is now ready to promote different languages.
Obaid Khan, a 28-year-old artist and anthropologist, is seen as a perfect addition due to his multilingual abilities. “Obaid has a master’s in anthropology and has been performing in KP for years. With him, we plan to promote Pashto, Kohistani, Hindko, and eventually even languages from Sindh and Punjab,” Bogra shared.
