Author and activist Fatima Bhutto is launching a heartfelt new memoir, The Hour of the Wolf, on January 27 in the U.S.—a tribute to the dogs who change our lives.
The book centers on Bhutto’s bond with her Jack Russell Terrier, Coco, who became her steady companion during some of her hardest years. In Coco’s presence, Bhutto found the strength to face profound personal loss, a toxic relationship, and lifelong anxiety.
She writes openly about trying everything—yoga, vegetarianism, veganism—to manage her panic attacks. What truly helped? Two things: welcoming the panic instead of fighting it, and the grounding, secure love of her dog.
But the memoir isn’t only about canine companionship. It’s also a celebration of “bone-deep” friendship. Bhutto reflects on friends who “outlast everything”—family, romances, even pets. She gives a special nod to her friend Allegra, who took the author photo for the book, which shows Bhutto cradling a sleeping Coco.
