Recently, Hina Bayat appeared on Good Morning Pakistan, hosted by Nida Yasir. On the show, she opened up about women facing harassment within extended, joint, or connected families in eastern societies.

Speaking about the issue, Hina Bayat said, “You are saying that women outside homes aren’t safe, but women at home are also not safe; they also face harassment. Unfortunately, in extended families, you have weddings and gatherings. Girls come to attend family weddings—it’s a normal event—but there are male relatives around them who keep bad intentions toward them, like staring or harassing them. You have to first teach sons how to respect women. What is respect? It’s not just treating women as your izzat (honor), but genuinely knowing how to respect them. If you give respect, you will be respected in society. Men need to understand that in order to create a good aura, they have to behave in a decent manner. Also, women should dress up modestly and respectfully as it boosts your confidence.”
