Hareem Farooq Explains Why She Ditched Dieting for Bismil

Actor Hareem Farooq recently revealed why Hareem Farooq ditched the diet for Bismil, her latest TV drama. Speaking about the societal pressures and body shaming that women often face, Farooq explained her choice to challenge conventional beauty standards by embracing her natural body for her role as Masooma. Her decision reflects her personal journey and emphasizes the importance of inclusivity in media.

Why Hareem Farooq Ditched Diet for Bismil

Before filming Bismil, Farooq considered going on a crash diet to conform to industry norms. However, she quickly realized the toll it was taking on her mental health. Instead of succumbing to the pressures of meeting unrealistic beauty ideals, she decided to portray Masooma authentically. “Do we not have such body types in our society? Then why not celebrate them?” she questioned, advocating for the media to reflect diverse and realistic portrayals of women.

Farooq highlighted how societal scrutiny, especially in Pakistan, disproportionately targets women. From their appearances to personal decisions, women often face relentless criticism. She rejected the idea of delaying the shoot to lose weight, instead focusing on the message her role could deliver about self-acceptance and breaking stereotypes.

Normalizing Imperfections On Screen

During the filming of Bismil, Farooq faced an additional challenge when she developed psoriasis, which left marks on her arms and face. Initially hesitant, she decided against covering them up, stating, “I’m not the only one going through this.” By showcasing her imperfections, she hoped to inspire others to embrace their flaws. Farooq’s stance is part of a growing movement in Pakistani entertainment to promote inclusivity and challenge harmful beauty standards, showing that real beauty lies in authenticity.
