Renowned Pakistani actor Moammar Rana and his wife, Mehnaz, have ended their nearly 28-year marriage after a family court in Lahore granted her khula (judicial divorce), bringing an end to one of the film industry's widely recognised relationships.
Family Court Judge Zahid Bashir issued the khula decree in favour of Mehnaz after her lawyer, Khadija Siddiqui, presented arguments.
The couple married on October 24, 1998, when Rana was at the peak of his acting career, and have two daughters together.
Moammar Rana rose to fame in the 1990s as one of Pakistan's leading film actors, starring in numerous Punjabi and Urdu movies and later transitioning to television dramas. Mehnaz, who maintained a lower public profile, long supported her husband's professional journey and frequently accompanied him at film-related events, becoming a familiar presence at industry functions throughout his career.
According to the divorce petition, Mehnaz alleged that Rana physically assaulted her and verbally abused her after consuming alcohol.
She further claimed that he repeatedly used abusive language in front of their daughters, causing them emotional distress.
